The Summer Isles
BackCoast p2

The Summer Isles consists of about twenty islands, rocks and skerries that are situated just sit off the Coigach peninsula. The largest island is Tanera Mor and it is the only one permanently inhabited, having first been occupied by the Vikings who made use of its sheltered harbour. It was particularly active during the herring fishing boom in the 18th century. This afternoon view is from the hills behind the crofting village of Polbain.
